Pack 11 (in yellow) at Ash Cave, Hocking Hills State Park Aug. 6 2016

This August the pack visited Hocking Hills State Park for a camping weekend. We hiked through the Rock House, Ash Cave and Old Man’s Cave. At the campsite we setup a slack line and shelter fly and learned how-to (and how not to) make biscuits in a Dutch Oven. The boys did a lot of the food prep for all our meals and made an excellent pot of chili and camp-wraps for dinner. Saturday night we roasted marshmallows, made s’mores, and some even tried – the s’moreo – a s’more made with an oreo.

We tried to camp here last year (2015), but heavy rains flooded the camp sites and we had to cancel the trip. This year the weather was great. We had a small amount of rain Friday night, but otherwise clear skies. And from the primitive group campsites we could see thousands of stars, the milky way and even a few shooting stars.
